TOPIC: All the Best

All the Best 10 months, 1 week ago #189

Hi,

I wish to thank the webmeister for posting my work on-site which helps to promote them. The internet can be a great medium for potential authors who, I might add, receive nothing for their efforts other than hope for a little feedback from fans of the same genre.

But - as with the Force in Star Wars - the internet has a dark side. Certain individuals who have nothing to offer but blunt, scathing remarks ...instead of constructive criticism and explaining their reasons for comments/opinions at length.

Efforts to sell myself have, sadly, been misconstrued as arrogance. That's the very reason why people in my country are angry and miserable: they are too afraid to sell themselves, giving in to jealousy, bitter and twisted inside, sneering at those who have something to offer. They cannot bring themselves to say a good word about anybody.

As to my idea of interviewing amateur writers on this site...why hasn't anybody jumped at the chance?? In answer to Gallicus smug response: YES, I most certainly would volunteer going all the way to London, or Birmingham, to discuss Fighting Fantasy, also what I've done, what I'm writing at the moment (with some limitations on info). And why not?

In the meantime, I'll be sending an entry into the Windhammer Competition 1st August. Yesterday, I'd written some more on the second Sean Calibre Case Files mission. Just thought I'd mention this - not too arrogant for you, is it??

The reply was certainly not "smug". I spent a lot of time considering that response and sadly you've gotten the wrong end of the stick (and missed the smiley with the stuck out tongue). But then perhaps I did too. You wrote:

amateur authors getting interviewed at Salute and other Games Festivals

which I took to mean a panel of FF fan writers of some description at a convention/festival as is done with star/writers of TV/film etc. This is huge undertaking and I was unsure as to what criteria you would suggest for selecting people to fill such a panel (plus I'm still not convinced there would be huge interest involved for a niche (fan written FF) of a niche (FF itself in the context of a RPG/gaming/fantasy convention)). Just convincing organizers of such a convention to allow such a panel would be an undertaking.

Now that you've clarified above to mean *interviewing fan writers casually at a convention and posting the results on this site*, that is a different thing altogether (although a simple email interview would probably be far more convenient).

If I am still getting the wrong end of the stick, please sing out.

Hi Gallicus,

Apologies if I got the wrong end of the stick - and sorry because I mistook the smiley face for a cheeky raspberry! - but when you said 'presumably are you volunteering yourself' I was hoping for a more lengthy and constructed response; what you've just written below describing casual interviews is exactly what I was looking for in the first place. More of a discussion, weighing options, bouncing ideas around, others making suggestions, etc. I think what frustrated me more was just a very short response which didn't take my idea seriously.

Anyway, sorry if I misjudged your character, Gallicus. And hope I didn't distress you too much over this misunderstanding
