Welcome Adventurers' to the FIGHTING FANTASY : Beyond the Pit. This area of the Official Fighting Fantasy website has been created as an ongoing project to present the entire resource of all Fighting Fantasy related monsters and encounters in the series past and present.

Almost every creature as explained above will be better than another creature of its own kind at doing some things and worse at doing others. For a humanoid adventurer, this may be fighting with ones’ chosen weapon, the various adventuring skills (such as creeping silently about, climbing, sensing traps, seeing in darkness etc.) or even the ability to cast spells. For other creatures this will include natural animal skills known as traits.
Whenever a creature has successfully wounded an opponent in an Attack Round, 1d6 is immediately rolled and the result is cross-referenced against the size of attack being used. For example a Black Dragon has a vast claw and will always cause more horrific injury than that of a Sprites minuscule fist. The number generated is the amount of STAMINA damage that is deducted. Note: the die-roll may be adjusted up or down by using LUCK or wearing armour, and this is why scores of 7 or more can be rolled. Note also that a creature may decide to pull a strike at any time in order to reduce the damage it does to its opponent or prey, usually as a prelude to surrender. Damage is reduced by 1 point. The field will also provide information on any special attacks other than damage (i.e.. Poison, disease, gaze, etc) which will be further detailed in the description section.
All of the damage received above is considered to originate from a Piercing or Rake attack. These attacks are generated with sharp weapons such as swords, daggers, arrows or animal appendages including teeth or fangs. The injuries inflicted include pierced, slashed or cut flesh and bone. When attacked and damage is inflicted by Bludgeoning attacks the scores on the damage table are reduced by 2 points, although a minimum of 1 point of STAMINA damage is always inflicted. Any attack that is generated with either blunt weapons such as mace, hammers, etc. or animal attacks including fists or butts result in injuries that cause knocks or concussion.
Damage received by a Gore attack is generated by sharp animal appendages including tusks, antlers or horns. The injuries from such attacks result in deeper pierced, slashed or cut flesh and bone and therefore the scores on the damage table are increased by 1 point. In a similar vein are STING attacks, that may cause piercing damage and therefore the scores on the damage table are also increased by 1 point. Sting attacks are also usually poisonous and contain some form of venom. Damage from this will be described in the description section.
An additional and optional Advanced Fighting Fantasy rule can be used where a creature of one size attacks a creature of another. Using modifiers these conditions create more realism and are added or subtracted from the SKILL score or a weapon Special Skill prior to Attack Strength rolls.
