WITS
This new field replaces the intelligence field used in the original OOTP. It is a general indicator of how well learned, clever, knowledgeable or intelligent a creature is. There are six ratings under this category as seen below. Scores range from 1 to 12 and most humanoid and animals will be of average WITS. In general only plants will have no WITS at all. Really high WITS scores usually occur where a creature is civilized, has learnt to use sophisticated tools or magic, or has the ability to reason and think, understanding language and know right from wrong, good and evil.
WITS: None
WITS: Very Low (1-3)
WITS: Low (4-5)
WITS: Average (6-7)
WITS: High (8-9)
WITS: Very High (10-12)
WITS is a useful field as it allows a GamesMaster to determine the reaction of a particular creature. More intelligent and clever creatures will be more cunning in encounters and use tactics to possibly defeat an opponent or prey. They may possess the ability to wield magic or have a special weapon and will use them in combat. Creatures with lower WITS will flee or leap straight into battle regardless of what size or who their opponent is.
We hope the Beyond the Pit will become an enjoyable read and you are welcome to voluntarily advise or correct entry continuity, missing alphabetical creatures, spelling, grammar or link errors if any are discovered. A big thank you to the Fighting Fantasy's community for their assistance. Please email your thought or post them within the FF Forum when it goes live again soon.
