Here we enter classic Fighting Fantasy; House of Hell. This is the seventh book in the successful Fighting Fantasy gamebook series, this time written entirely by Steve Jackson. It is set in the unusual modern day setting with a dark horror theme.

Book Description: Stranded miles from anywhere on a dark and stormy night, your only hope of refuge is the strange, ramshackle mansion you can see in the distance...

But entering the House of Hell hurls you into an adventure of spine-chilling and blood-curdling terror.

The dangers of the torrential storm outside are nothing compared to the nightmarish creatures that await you within its gruesome walls. Be warned! You must try to keep your fear under control - collect too many FEAR points and you will die. Can you make it through the night without being scared - to death?

Part-story, part game, this is a book with a difference - one in which you become the hero! A pencil and an eraser are all you need to make your journey. YOU decide which route to take, which creatures to fight and which dangers to risk.

House of Hell is a modern adventure set away from the Fighting Fantasy world of Titan. Steve Jackson's horror story sees you explore the rooms and corridors of Lord Kelnor's home, hoping to come out of the place with your life.

You end up at the dreaded house after you get caught up in a dreadful storm and a white-haired man gives you bogus directions. As you drive along in your car you feel that you are getting lost, and with your vision impaired, seemingly hit a man who happens to look exactly the same as the white-haired man who gave you directions. However, when you leave your car to investigate the dead body, it is gone! Fortunately (or so you thought!), there is a house nearby where you hope to be able to telephone for help.

Once you enter the house you will encounter Franklins the butler. He will lead you to Lord Kelnor, the Earl of Drumer. You will then learn something of your foe as your comfort soon turns to terror as you delve further into the depths of the house. Exploring the house is a terrifying experience as you come across all sorts of vile characters and the usual array of undead creatures. Your ultimate aim will be to solve the clues and find what you need in order to defeat Lord Kelnor. On your way you will come across various traps and puzzles that will send shivers down your spine.

A couple of special features in this book are the fact that you start with no weapon and the fear factor. During your adventure you will have to come across some sort of weapon if you are to be at your most effective. The Fear factor adds another dimension to this book, and many of your forays into the house will no doubt see you scared to death when the pressure just becomes too much for you to handle.

The fourth book that founder Steve Jackson worked on is not your typical Fighting Fantasy adventure. A short version of House of Hell was first featured in Warlock magazine NO.3 (1984). The book is probably the scariest of all the Fighting Fantasy adventures, and is incredibly popular amongst long time fans of the series. Are you brave enough to succeed in the perils of the House of Hell?
