Were not sure if you've been following the action on Warlock, however it is currently the no.1 download in the Kindle Store Role Playing & Fantasy section. At the moment it’s only available on the US Kindle store, so keep an eye out for a UK announcement.

The e-book version is also getting some great Reviews: "Simply fantastic! A great story with integrated dice rolling, character sheets, Maps and wonderful full page illustrations throughout. It could not be simpler or more fun. I primarily have used my kindle for reading various business related papers and magazines but I couldn't put it down once I started reading/playing this title."

You clunk down the door locks - and only then allow a sigh of sheer relief. Hands shaking, you fumble with the keys, finally manage to twist the ignition... nothing! You stare open-mouthed at the terrible silence, twisting the key again, and again. What the...? Then, a sudden thump upon the bonnet draws your full attention. A one-eyed dog is staring back through the windscreen, something gripped in its maw. Your heart sinks: wiring from the engine. The acolytes are simply tormenting you with false hopes. A motorised escape hasn’t been overlooked by them; you’ve underestimated their foresight. The one-eyed canine drops the wires, bares its teeth into a savage snarl, then lifts back its head to howl at the rising moon. This racket does nothing to calm your nerves, but then a grim resolve governs your next move. Alright, you can’t escape - but you can fight back. Mentally, you block out the increasing number of acolyte shouts as they advance upon the Land Rover, drawn by the incessant, triumphal howling. Beneath the passenger seat is a canvas bag containing a sheathed army-issue Knife, and a pump action Shotgun with sixteen twelve gauge shells. You open the glove compartment, snatching out a few packets of crisps and an apple, enough for two Meals - although you’d never expected them to be used as emergency rations. Note these items on your Adventure Sheet. Taking a quick shot of sloe gin to build up the needed courage, you level the shotgun straight at the engrossed beast, and pull the trigger.

Pinewood Studios based software developers Worldweaver Ltd have just released the first major interactive fiction title for the Kindle e-book reader.

Kindle e-book

“The Warlock of Firetop Mountain” is the first title in the popular Fighting Fantasy gamebook series by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. The books have been adapted to make use of the Kindle's computing abilities, handling the dice rolls, scoring and inventory. There is also an automatic mapping system that shows the reader’s current location and route they have taken through the dungeons. The authors have been closely involved in the adaptation to help keep the original atmosphere of the games on the new device.

“Having been a big fan of the Fighting Fantasy series when it was first released, it was great to discover the Kindle can not only display the book but also augment it,” said Chris Sterling, CEO of Worldweaver. “Removing the need for a pen, paper and dice means that the books can now be enjoyed anywhere. We hope that the Kindle version will bring the fun of Gamebooks to a whole new generation of readers, as well as reigniting the magic for those of us who remember the original books.”
