‘FIGHTING FANTASY: Talisman of Death’ (PSN minis) game – Wizard’s Desk explained!
Now that Laughing Jackal’s work on the Fighting Fantasy game series for PSN minis has been revealed (beginning with the classic ‘Talisman of Death’), we can explain a little more about the game’s main interface, presented to the player as a wizard’s desk in an old, dusty study room.

Before we begin please realise that all artwork is in its early stages, is subject to change and doesn’t necessarily represent the final standard of content.
Right, now the disclaimer’s out of the way, the image below shows the desk itself with a helpful numbered overlay to accompany the description of each area the player can access. Each of the red boxes is the equivalent of the PSP’s screen size (i.e. the scale of the red boxes is 1 to 1 with your PSP’s display):
Each of the numbered areas on the desk is described below:
1.) Test Your SKILL area:

In ‘New’ game mode, it's here that the player matches button presses against icons that bubble up out of the cauldron, in order to pass SKILL tests.
2.) Combat (New mode) area:

In ‘New’ mode, this is where the player fights enemies encountered during their adventure using the new tile-based combat system.
3.) Test Your LUCK area:

In ‘New’ mode the player tests their LUCK using the Rune Wheel here.
4.) Save/Options area:
The player’s save data and player records are managed here.
5.) Talisman of Death Game Book area:
This area is where the player plays through the game itself, reading the page entries and making decision to try and remove the Talisman of Death from the world of Orb.
6.) Character/Item/Page Bios area:
Its here where the player can view biographies of all characters items and page entries encountered in the game.
7.) Dice Roll (Classic mode) area:
In ‘Classic’ mode, this is where all combat and skill rolls are decided.
8.) Character Creation area:
Here’s where the player will generate their adventurer before they begin their quest, using our new Tarot card system.
We’ll provide more detail on each area in the coming weeks, but we hope that this brief taster has got your minds ticking. :)
Once completed, the Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death minis title will be available on PS3 and PSP, via the PSN Store in Europe and America. Watch this space for more news on game content, release dates and pricing, as and when it happens!

The two of you pass by the pools and your eyes water from the multi-coloured steam which wafts up from the vivid waters. For thirty minutes you trek across the brutal landscape, noticing that the sky is now a hazy green and pink. Mortinen seems wary of the wastes and constantly brandishes his dagger. Eventually the path leads down into a large crater filled with the rainbow waters. A series of rock ledges and bridges criss-cross over the lake, forming a complex spiderweb of paths which are a mockery of the natural landscape around them.
The walls of the crater are too high to scale and the land around the crater is mountainous and rocky, giving you no choice but to walk across the narrow paths above the lake. Choosing a sturdy looking bridge of blue rock which springs out from the crater wall you begin to walk across. Mortinen seems hesitant yet summons the courage to follow you. The paths are a maze of overhanging arches and twisting ledges, forcing you to backtrack your steps at times. Mortinen gives a cry of alarm and points to a nearby ledge which runs around the side of the crater. Following his finger you see some sort of creature lumbering across the ledge, it does not seem to have noticed you yet and you are eager to continue. As you turn back you hear Mortinen’s whisper, “sorry friend but now I know exactly where I need to go...” to your horror your companion slams his elbow into your back sending you hurtling off the side of the path and towards the swirling waters below... Turn to 439.

You are a skilled seaman and sailor of the seas and oceans of Allansia. For fifteen long years you have experienced many voyages as a mariner on some of the greatest ships of the region. You have journeyed under some of the seas very best captains and also some of the largest warships from some of the most powerful states.
Born into a small family in the village of Oyster Bay many moons ago, you left the laborious lifestyle of fishing and farming of your parents with a thirst for adventure. Skilled with the sword and eager to develop your amonour you passed from the lands of you’re parents and grandparents north to Port Blacksand and the lands of Azuur now known commonly as Azuuria. With simple belongings and few coins you quickly found the urban environment a dangerous place for those unaccustomed to its dark depths. On your third night while enquiring for work you were beaten and left for dead in an alley on the quayside....
Those were many years ago, and your memory reflects back at the face of Jordo Grimpond who in kindness took you aboard his ship and tended to your wounds. Here, by his side you found a new home, which would allow you to journey to the breadth of Allansia in search of adventure on the high seas. .
