Hello there Adventurers. Greetings! Welcome to the mighty Great Wizard's biography area for many of the contributory artists of the Fighting Fantasy Gamebook's. These pages will profile the current artists.
Russ Nicholson
Russ Nicholson is a British illustrator, noted mostly for his own distinct black and white style that has appeared within numerous Games Workshop products, including Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Warhammer 40,000 and their magazine White Dwarf. He illustrated all of the published "episodes" of the Fabled Lands series, which was originally planned as an interactive 'gamebook' to be published in 12 parts, created by Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson as well as many creatures in the original Fiend Folio, a UK contribution to the first edition of the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons game. Other credits include The War-Torn Kingdom (New Gamebook Series), Robin of Sherwood Game Books (Puffin Adventure Gamebooks), and The Kingdom of Wyrd (Blood Sword) all published in the late 80's and 90's.
He is perhaps best known for his work on Fighting Fantasy gamebook series and Russ illustrated the interior artwork of the first ever Fighting Fantasy gamebook The Warlock of Firetop Mountain along with the Citadel of Chaos, Masks of Mayhem, Chasms of Malice. Stealer of Souls, Island of the Undead, Deathmoor, Mage Hunter, The Trolltooth Wars, Demonstealer, Shadowmaster, Blacksand, and Allansia. He was to put it mildly a little busy!
Throughout his career he has also taken the opportunity to illustrate the Fighting Fantasy Novels; The Trolltooth Wars, Demonstealer, Shadowmaster,
the three Advanced Fighting Fantasy books; Dungeoner, Blacksand and Allansia, Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy - Adventures of Goldhawk series; Darkmoon's Curse, The Demon Spider, Mudworm Swamp, Host Road and finally Out of the Pit, Titan - The Fighting Fantasy World, The Fighting Fantasy 10th Anniversary Yearbook and various Warlock magazine.
