Description:
No one has ever survived the
Trial of Champions. The annual event devised by the devilish
Baron Sukumvit, has claimed the lives of many brave adventurers
before you. Can you possibly overcome the various traps and
puzzles that lie in wait for you in the labyrinth of Fang?
This deadly dungeon has captured
the hearts of millions (literally!), and is filled with hideous
monsters, mindbending puzzles and pitfalls around almost every
corner. Only the strongest are likely to have any chance of
enduring the tests that lie before you, and along with five
other adventurers, this is your year to enter the deep depths
of the dungeon.
It is the 1st May, and along
with a knight, two barbarians, an elf-woman and a thief, you
are set to go to your inevitable doom. Early on, the dungeon
is a reasonably pleasant stroll with a few 'lesser' creatures
to hone your swordplay against. This doesn't last long however,
and the traps begin to come thick and fast after the initial
'nice' period. There are plenty of places in Deathtrap Dungeon
in which you'll receive an automatic death for making foolish
decision. No fights to get you out of the fix, it's back to
square one!
Aside from the numerous traps
awaiting you, there is also an incredible array of tough monsters
to fight. There are the usual popular beasts like the minotaur
and the medusa, but there is also the extremely vicious manticore,
at well as the revolting bloodbeast. The last two have to be
overcome if you are to succeed in your quest, though anybody
getting that far with a more skill value might as well start
again!
Not content with leaving the
monsters to deal with you, Ian also added a final puzzle at
the end? This is one of the few Fighting Fantasy books to actually
spawn a sequel. If you weren't scared off first time, you can
return to Fang in 'Trial of Champions'. The book spawned a computer
game by Eidos Interactive in the late 1990's.
